Star of the Week

Anthony was our star this week!
We learned a lot about Anthony during his presentation of his poster, poem, and photos.
We learned that he really enjoys spending time up north fishing with his grandpa, his hero is his grandma, his favorite food is ribs, and he really likes skateboarding.
Anthony's special guest was his grandma.
Thanks for doing such a great job, Anthony!

Bully Prevention

Mrs. Anderson, our school social worker, worked with us for the last five weeks on bully prevention lessons.  The 4th graders learned about different kinds of bullying and different ways to stop bullying.
They read the book One by Kathryn Otoshi and wrote about how they are "1" when they stop bullying by standing up for others.  We were impressed by the things they wrote!  We would recommend this book to all students, teachers and parents; it teaches a valuable lesson about standing up for others and doing the right thing.

On their last day of bully prevention lessons students role played different bullying scenarios and discussed the roles of students and adults in the different situations they played out.  This was a fun learning experience for our class!
Thank you to Mrs. Anderson for working with us on bully prevention!

Star of the Week

Our star this week was Mikayla!
Mikayla's poster, poem, and photos were great!  We enjoyed getting to know her better during her presentation.
We learned that Mikayla loves the Harry Potter books and movies, she enjoys playing soccer, and her hero is her dad.  We thought the picture of her holding the snake she caught was pretty cool!
Mikayla's special guests were her mom and dad.
Thanks for being such a great star, Mikayla!  Nice job!

Author Visit from Mary Bleckwehl

Sibley Elementary was happy to host author, Mary Bleckwehl, on Monday, February 11th!

She is the author of the Henry! books.
She shared the book writing and publishing process with students.
It was very interesting to hear how an idea for a story turns into a book!
Check out Mary's website at www.marybleckwehl.com to find out more about her and her Henry! books.

During her presentation we learned how much Genevieve likes to fish, play hockey, and ride horses.  She told us that her favorite movie is Miracle and that she used to watch it every night when she was little.
Genevieve's special guests were her mom, dad, sister, brother, grandma, and grandpa.
You did a great job, Genevieve! Thanks for being our star!

Pennies for the Plunge!

Get ready for our 2nd Annual
Pennies for the Plunge!
Our goal this year will be to raise $200 as a building to benefit the Salvation Army food shelf.
(Last year our goal was to raise $150 and we surpassed that by raising $400! Wow!)

Please bring in your pennies and spare change for this event. If we meet our goal of raising $200, a few lucky teachers from our building will participate in the Polar Plunge during the Big Freeze at Edgewater Park on Saturday, February 16th!

This year the entire district is joining in on Pennies for the Plunge because they heard how big of a success our event was at Sibley last year!
Awesome!
