Star of the Week

Our star this week is Melany!

Melany did a great job presenting her star of the week information!  The photos of her when she was little were very cute.  She also did a great job on her "I Am" poem.

Her special guest was Mrs. Neid.

Great job, Melany!  Thanks for being our star!

Star of the Week

Danny was our star this week!

He did such a great job presenting his information!  It was so fun to see photos of him when he was a little boy.  The 4th graders were impressed by his dad's giant soccer trophies - they were pretty big!

Danny's special guest was Mrs. Neid.

You did a fantastic job, Danny.  Thanks so much for being our star!

Hidden Creek

Monday was our last day with our friends at Good Sam and Hidden Creek.  The 4th graders performed a few songs that they've been working on for their musical The Jungle Book.  The residents really enjoyed them!

The students had a great time playing games and chatting with the residents.  We've had such a great time visiting them this year.  It has been a great experience!

Read Across America Day

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Friday, March 2nd was Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday.  Our 4th graders enjoyed a "read-in" for most of the day, and then at the end of the day we had a guest reader who was invited to read to our class by our Reading Corps volunteer Mrs. Bottleson.

My class was very excited to see Ole Olson, an Army National Guard member, who read to them last year.  The 4th graders enjoyed his sense of humor as he read a tongue-twisting book by Dr. Seuss.

Thank you for reading to our class, Ole!  We loved it!

Author Douglas Wood

Sibley Elementary had a very special guest today!  Author Douglas Wood paid our students a visit and put on an amazing presentation containing songs, stories and writing advice.  He has written 30 books in his career including "Old Turtle", "A Quiet Place", "Grandad's Prayers of the Earth" and the "Can't Do" series.  He was an engaging presenter with a wonderful message for our students.  We really appreciate him coming to visit us!

In the photo above Douglas is showing students the first draft of the book "Old Turtle" that he wrote on a yellow legal pad in just 30 minutes.  It was remarkable to see the rough draft of such a wonderful and award winning book!
