Favorite Characters

In honor of Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss's birthday on Friday, students and staff were encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters today.  What a fun way to celebrate reading!

Mrs. Loos and I dressed up as Thing 1 and Thing 2.

Mrs. Faber dressed up as Fancy Nancy.

Marcus was Captain Underpants.

Emma, Olivia and Ellie were Things, also!

Star of the Week

Jamey is our star this week!

Jamey's photos were great and showed her love for her dog and her former cats.  Her "I Am" poem was all about her love for animals, especially wolves.  She did a great job presenting her information.

Jamey's special guest was her mom.  Thanks for being our star, Jamey!

Reader's Theater

Last week we practiced two reader's theater plays in reading class.  The students performed the plays for their first grade reading buddies on Friday morning.  They all had great expression and fluency while they were performing their plays.

Reader's Theater was a fun way to practice our oral reading skills.  Great job, 4th graders!

Star of the Week

Gavyn is our star this week!

We really enjoyed Gavyn's "I Am" poem and his photos.  His photos of the fish he caught were great!  Our class had a lot of questions for him, and his presentation was a great way for us to get to know him better!

Gavyn's special guests were his mom and dad.

You did a great job, Gavyn!  Thanks for being our star!

Polar Plunge

Over the past few weeks, Sibley students were challenged to raise $150.00 by donating change for our local food shelf and they ended up raising $401.80!

Wow!

Because we exceeded our goal, Mr. Wanzek and Mrs. Faber dressed in crazy costumes and "Plunged into Learning".

Thanks for being such good sports, you two!

An Exciting Day in 4th Grade!

Today we got to meet Sgt. Laite!  He surprised our students this morning and spent some time with us.  He shared information about his time overseas, we looked at Google Earth to see Camp Buerhing in Kuwait where he is stationed, and he answered students' questions.  It was so great to finally meet the person we've been corresponding with this school year!

Sgt. Laite gave our classes a very special gift today.  He presented the students with a flag that flew at his base for a day in honor of our 4th graders along with a certificate of authenticity. We were so touched that he thought of us and gave us those gifts.  We can't thank him enough for taking the time out of his short break to visit us!  Wow!

We sent off the boxes of Valentine's cards and candy to the Delta Company today.  It's fun to know that Sgt. Laite will be in Kuwait waiting for our goodies!

Valentine's Day

This year for Valentine's Day our 4th graders made cards for our military friends in Kuwait,
and donated all of their candy to the troops as well!

We ended up with 2 big boxes full of cards and candy to send overseas.  Great job, 4th graders!

Star of the Week

Danbiel is our star this week!

Danbiel's "I Am" poem was all about basketball.  It is obvious what his favorite sport is!  He did a great job sharing his information and photos with the class.  It was fun to see how cute he was when he was little!

Mrs. Neid came to watch Danbiel during his presentation.

Thanks for being our star, Danbiel!

Star of the Week

Our star this week is Ellie S.!

Ellie had a great "I Am" poem with a camping theme.  It went very nicely with the hunting and outdoor photos she shared with us.  It is evident that she is a big fan of these things!

She brought her walking stick in to share with the class also.  It was very cool!

Ellie's special guests were her mom and twin brother, Aaron.  Thanks for being our star this week, Ellie!

Nonfiction Reading Powers

In Reading class we've been working on studying the Nonfiction Reading Powers.  This week we used The Star Tribune and read articles about Jack Jablonski (hockey player) and Zach Gabbard (basketball player).  They are both student athletes who are working to overcome obstacles they're facing from sports related injuries.

I was so impressed with our class's ability to comprehend the newspaper text, ask questions, and make inferences and connections as we read.  Great job, 4th graders!
